Minister of Education Inaugurates Committee to Oversee Reversal of Double-Track System
The Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has today inaugurated an 11-member committee to oversee the transition from the double-track system to a single-track system in Senior High Schools (SHS) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS) across Ghana.
The committee is chaired by Prof. Peter Grant from the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and includes representatives from key educational institutions:
- Prof. Godwin Awabil – UCC
- Prof. Samuel A. Atintono – PRINCOF
- Prof. Smile Gavua Dzisi (Mrs.) – Deputy Director-General (Management Service), GES
- Dr. Munawaru Issahaque – Deputy Director-General (Quality and Access), GES
- D. W. Agbenyo – WAEC
- Rosemond Wilson (PhD) – WAEC
- Mr. Augustus Agyemfra – CODE
- Mr. David Odjidja – CHASS
- Addo Nicholas Nii Kpakpoe – COHBS
- Prince Charles Agyemang-Duah – Schools & Instructions Division, GES

The committee has been tasked with the following responsibilities:
- Reviewing the 2024/2025 academic calendar.
- Realigning the WASSCE calendar with other West African countries.
- Developing a roadmap to phase out the double-track system and return to a single-track system.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by key stakeholders in the education sector, including:
- Mr. Clement Apaak, Deputy Minister for Education
- Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, Director-General of GES
- Prof. George K.T. Oduro, Technical Advisor to the Minister
- The Chief Director of MoE
- Directors and Management Members of GES and MoE

This move marks a significant step toward improving the SHS education system in Ghana, ensuring better learning conditions for students.
