Dr. Felix Kumedzro Inducted as Principal of Akatsi College of Education – Gh Edu Pro
Dr. Felix Kwame Kumedzro, a dedicated researcher and educationist, has officially taken office as the 13th Principal of Akatsi College of Education. His induction took place in the Akatsi South Municipality of the Volta Region.
Dr. Kumedzro brings a wealth of experience to the position. He has worked in various departments at the University of Cape Coast and other institutions, equipping him with the knowledge to lead Akatsi College forward.
His academic background includes a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) Degree and a Leadership Empowerment Certificate from the School of Management, University at Buffalo, USA. With 14 years of teaching experience and 11 years in administration at the university level, he is well-prepared for this new role.
During his induction speech, Dr. Kumedzro expressed his dedication to building upon the legacy of Akatsi College of Education.
“I am committed to honoring the history of AKATSICO while developing a clear vision with specific strategies to address our challenges,” he stated.
He acknowledged some of the major challenges facing the college, including:
- Inadequate physical and academic infrastructure
- Limited funding
- Staff migration issues
- Concerns about remuneration and welfare of staff
“These challenges are not just administrative issues; they affect the quality of teaching, learning, and staff morale. We must not only adapt but lead, ensuring that our college not only survives but thrives,” he emphasized.
Dr. Kumedzro outlined his plans for the college, which include:
- Promoting academic excellence
- Fostering a strong research culture
- Encouraging creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking
“I will work towards creating an environment where staff and students engage in meaningful research that addresses real educational challenges,” he stressed.
The new principal also promised to make Akatsi College a safe space where students and staff can express themselves freely.
“We will create a college community where everyone feels valued, heard, and empowered to contribute to our success,” he assured.
He called on all stakeholders to support his vision, emphasizing that collaboration is key.
“The challenges we face are too complex for one person to solve alone. We need to work together with a shared vision and purpose,” he urged.
Dr. Kumedzro reassured students that their academic, emotional, and social well-being remains a priority. He encouraged them to take advantage of the opportunities available and reminded them that,“Every challenge you encounter is a chance for growth.”
Expressing gratitude for the warm welcome he has received, he thanked the management, staff, and alumni for their support.
“I sincerely appreciate your support so far, and I will continue to rely on you. I am excited about the journey ahead and look forward to making Akatsi College of Education a leader in teacher education in Ghana and beyond,” he concluded.
