What’s Changing?
The mode of administering the exam is what’s changing—not the exam itself.
From now on, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and the National Teaching Council (NTC) will collaborate to conduct the licensure examination within the Colleges of Education. This means:
- Students will now take the licensure exam before they complete college, as part of their final assessment process.
- No more waiting after graduation to register and sit for the exam externally.
What This Means for Students in Colleges
You will no longer have to:
- Leave the college,
- Return home,
- Register separately, or
- Wait for an external exam date.
The exam will be taken on campus before you graduate.
What About Graduates Who Haven’t Written the Exam Yet?
For graduates who have already completed college but have not yet passed or taken the licensure exam, the traditional system still applies:
- You must register through NTC,
- And write the exam as scheduled externally.
Key Takeaway
This new directive is aimed at reducing stress, streamlining the process, and ensuring that all prospective teachers are tested before graduation.
The Teacher Licensure Examination remains a critical step in Ghana’s education reform agenda. It ensures that teachers entering the classroom are professionally trained, competent, and ready to deliver quality education.
