Students Loan Trust Fund approves disbursement to over 9,400 students – Gh Edu Pro
The Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has given approval for loan payments to 9,433 students studying in 62 public and private tertiary institutions in Ghana.
This decision is one of the first major actions taken by Dr. Saajida Shiraz since she became the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Trust Fund.
Many students had complained about delays in receiving their loans. In response, Dr. Shiraz apologized and assured students that she is working to make the process faster and more efficient. She promised that under her leadership, the SLTF will work better to avoid such delays in the future.
She also stated that she is committed to supporting President John Dramani Mahama’s vision for improving financing for tertiary education. She has already started putting measures in place to launch the SLTF Plus policy, which is aimed at increasing financial support for students and making the loan system more effective.
Dr. Shiraz described her first few days in office as productive and engaging. She has been involved in important meetings, including the National Education Forum on education financing. She has also met with SLTF staff to discuss ways to improve the fund’s operations.
Some key steps she has taken so far include:
- Holding discussions with the newly appointed Deputy CEO, Kojo Danquah
- Visiting two zonal offices
- Assessing the SLTF regional office in Accra
She emphasized that important interventions have already started to ensure students get the financial help they need without unnecessary delays.
With these early actions, Dr. Shiraz has shown a strong commitment to improving the SLTF. She has reassured students that they can expect better services and faster loan payments in the coming months.
This news comes as a relief to many students who depend on the Students Loan Trust Fund to support their education.
