[Just in] Registration for 2025 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) 1 – All You Need to Know

The National Teaching Council (NTC) has officially opened registration for the 2025 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) 1. This important exam helps qualified teachers get a professional teaching license in Ghana.

What is the Teacher Licensure Exam (GTLE)?

The GTLE is an exam every qualified teacher must pass to get a license to teach in Ghana. It checks if teachers have the right knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes needed to teach well.

What Papers Will You Write?

If you are writing for the first time (fresh candidate), you will write three (3) papers:

1. General Professional Knowledge – This includes numeracy, literacy, and basic teaching skills.
2. Grade-Level Specialism Pedagogy – This depends on your level of training (Early Grade, Primary, JHS, SHS, or TVET).
3. Subject Content Knowledge:
   • Multiple Subjects: For Early Grade and Primary trained teachers.
   • Single Subject: For JHS, SHS, or Technical/Vocational trained teachers.

Who Can Write This Exam?

To be eligible, you must have:

• A Bachelor of Education or Postgraduate Diploma in Education.
• If you studied outside Ghana, you must get a certificate evaluation report from GTEC.

Indexing Process (For Fresh Candidates Only)

Before you register, check if your training institution has uploaded your data:

1. Go to: https://indexing.ntc.gov.gh
2. If your info is there, you’ll be given an indexing number.
3. Pay an indexing fee of GH₵50.00 at Prudential Bank or by mobile money: *77251#
4. Use your indexing number to register for the exam.

Important Notes:

• Pay only if your data is on the indexing portal.
• You must have at least a degree to pay for indexing.

Registration Fees

• Fresh candidates (3 papers) – GH₵450.00
• Re-sit fees:
  • 1 paper – GH₵150.00
  • 2 papers – GH₵210.00
  • 3 papers – GH₵385.00

Make sure to collect your Serial Number and Pin after payment.

How to Register Online

1. Go to https://exams.ntc.gov.gh
2. Enter your Serial Number and Pin
3. Fill in your details and upload a passport photo (white background, under 250KB)
4. Check your info carefully before submitting
5. Print your registration summary
6. Read and agree to the exam rules
7. Keep your Serial Number and Pin safe

Deadline for Registration: 7th July 2025

No extension will be given after this date.

Important Reminders:

• Don’t use the same phone number to buy more than one voucher.
• Dress in professional attire during the exam.
• No babies are allowed in the exam room.

Special Notice for Re-sit Candidates

This July exam is for:

• Fresh candidates with a degree
• Candidates with resits doing national service

The final resit will be held in October 2025. After that, those who fail must start afresh and join teacher trainees for the next professional exams in 2026.

Exam Dates: 18th to 20th July 2025

Make sure you prepare well and complete all processes on time.
