Clarification on the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination

There has been some confusion and misinformation circulating about the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE). This article is here to give you the correct and simple explanation of what is happening.

First of all, let us be clear: The GTLE has NOT been cancelled.

What’s happening is a change in when and how the examination will be taken.

New Change in the Mode of Writing the Exam

The Teacher Licensure Examination, which used to be written months or even a year before a trainee completes school, will no longer be written that way. This practice will officially stop by August 30, 2025.

Going forward, the GTLE will:

  • Be written right after a student completes their programme, or
  • Be added to the final semester exams of students, making it part of the overall final assessment.

Who Does This Affect?

This new arrangement is meant for students currently in their final year at the Colleges of Education (CoEs). These are students expected to complete their studies by September 18, 2025. So, if you are part of the 2025 batch of final-year teacher trainees, this change applies to you.

What About the July 2025 GTLE?

If you are scheduled to write the GTLE from July 18 to July 20, 2025, this change does not affect you. You will still write the exams as planned. The new system starts after August 30, 2025.

Important Points to Remember:

  • GTLE is still active. It has not been cancelled.
  • From August 30, 2025, the exam will be written after completion or be part of the final exams.
  • Final-year students completing their programme in September 2025 are part of the new arrangement.
  • Candidates writing their GTLE in July 2025 are not affected by this change.

Let’s all stay informed and help share the right information with friends, coursemates, and fellow trainees. Misinformation can lead to panic, but with the right updates, we can all prepare well
