TTAG Meets NTC Registrar Over Licensure Exam for Level 400 Teacher Trainees

On July 15, 2025, the leadership of TTAG (Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana) met with the Registrar of the National Teaching Council (NTC), Dr. Christian Addai Poku, to discuss important matters affecting teacher trainees, especially those in Level 400.

What Was Discussed?

During the meeting, the following key issues were raised:

  1. Timing and Format of the Licensure Exams
The TTAG leaders wanted to know when the licensure exams would be written and how they would be organized for this year’s final-year students.
  2. Missing Subject Areas on the Portal
They also mentioned that some subjects like Agriculture were missing on the exam portal. This is worrying because some students can’t select their correct subject for the exams.
  3. Study Materials for Candidates
TTAG asked that learning materials be provided to help teacher trainees prepare well for the exam.

Response from the Registrar

Dr. Addai Poku thanked the TTAG leaders for taking the step to seek clarification. He shared that:

  • A technical team’s report on the new reforms of the licensure exam is ready and waiting for the final approval by the Minister of Education.
  • He also promised to solve the issue of missing subject options and provide study materials soon.

What Happens Next?

Since the Minister of Education recently announced that the licensure exam will no longer be written before students complete their course (ending on August 30, 2025), TTAG plans to meet again with the Minister and the NTC. This will help bring clear answers to:

  • What will happen to current Level 400 students?
  • What about those who couldn’t register for the first phase of the GTLE?

Note: The new reform does not affect those writing the Weekend GTLE for now.

TTAG continues to stand strong for all teacher trainees across Ghana. The leadership is working hard to make sure all your concerns are heard and addressed.
