2026 GTLE 1 Registration Deadline for All Fresh & Resit Candidates

The National Teaching Council (NTC) has officially announced the registration details for the 2026 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE 1). This examination is very important for all prospective teachers in Ghana because it is a key requirement for obtaining a professional teaching license.
Every teacher trainee who has completed a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree or a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) must pass the GTLE before he or she can be fully recognized and licensed to teach in Ghana. For this reason, candidates are encouraged to pay serious attention to the registration dates and requirements.
Who Is Eligible to Apply?
The GTLE 1 is open to candidates who meet specific academic requirements. To qualify:
- A candidate must have a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree, or
- A Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE).
Candidates who obtained their degrees outside Ghana must provide a certificate evaluation report from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to confirm that their qualification is recognized in Ghana.
It is important for candidates to check their eligibility status before starting the registration process. NTC has provided an online platform where candidates can confirm their details before proceeding.
Indexing Process
Fresh candidates are required to go through the indexing process before registering for the examination. The indexing fee is GH¢50.00. However, candidates who are re-sitting the examination do not need to go through the indexing process again.
After successful payment, candidates will receive a message containing their name, indexing number, and further instructions. It is important to keep this information safe because it will be needed throughout the registration and examination process.
Examination Fees
The fees for the 2026 GTLE 1 are as follows:
- Fresh candidates: GH¢450.00 (for three papers)
- Candidates re-sitting one paper: GH¢150.00
- Candidates re-sitting two papers: GH¢210.00
- Candidates re-sitting all three papers: GH¢385.00
Candidates should ensure they pay the correct amount based on their category. Paying the wrong fee may delay the registration process.
Payment can be made at any branch of Prudential Bank nationwide. Candidates can also make payment through mobile money using the official short code provided by NTC. After dialing the code, candidates must select “Teacher Licensure” and follow the instructions carefully.
Registration and Deadline
According to the announcement, registration for the 2026 GTLE 1 began on 16th February, 2026. The application deadline is 10th March, 2026. This means all candidates must complete their registration before 10th March, 2026.
Candidates are advised not to wait until the last minute. Delays in payment, network problems, or mistakes during the registration process can cause unnecessary stress. Registering early will give candidates enough time to correct any errors and prepare well for the examination.
The examination itself is scheduled to take place from 23rd to 25th March, 2026. Candidates should begin serious preparation immediately after registration.
Why the GTLE Is Important
The Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination is not just an ordinary exam. It is a professional requirement for all teachers in Ghana. Passing the GTLE proves that a teacher has the required knowledge, skills, and professional understanding to handle classroom teaching effectively.
Without passing the GTLE, a graduate cannot be issued a full professional teaching license. This means he or she may not be legally recognized as a professional teacher in Ghana.
The examination also helps to maintain high standards in the teaching profession. By setting clear requirements, NTC ensures that only qualified and competent individuals are allowed to teach in schools across the country.
Final Advice to Candidates
All candidates preparing to write the 2026 GTLE 1 should take this opportunity seriously. Start your preparation early. Revise your course materials, study past questions, and join study groups if possible.
Make sure you complete your registration before 10th March, 2026 to avoid missing the opportunity. Keep all payment receipts and confirmation messages safely.
The teaching profession is a noble one, and passing the GTLE is an important step toward becoming a licensed and recognized teacher in Ghana. Stay focused, prepare well, and aim for success in the 2026 GTLE 1.
