Nationwide Demonstration Alert: NABCO Trainees has issued Three (3) weeks Ultimatum to Government to pay their arrears

The Ghanaian government has been issued a three-week ultimatum by the Coalition of NABCO Trainees to settle outstanding arrears owed to beneficiaries of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) program. This demand comes after Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s unfulfilled promise to address the overdue payments during his campaign in the Volta Region on June 2, 2024.

 Bawumia promises some months ago.

The Coalition expressed frustration and disappointment in a statement released on June 24, highlighting the beneficiaries’ growing anxiety. National Secretary Frank Quansah emphasized that the trainees’ patience is wearing thin and warned of a demonstration against the government if the ultimatum is not met.
Quansah stated, “We’re giving the government three weeks to release funds for NABCO beneficiaries. If we don’t hear anything, we’ll organize a demonstration against Dr. Bawumia and his government.” He further warned that if their concerns are not addressed, beneficiaries will mobilize to vote against Dr. Bawumia and the NPP in the upcoming elections.
The NABCO program, launched in 2018, aimed to provide jobs and skills to unemployed graduates. However, the Coalition lamented that delayed payments have caused significant hardship for beneficiaries who rely on their stipends for basic needs.
As the three-week deadline approaches, the government must take concrete steps to address the outstanding arrears and restore the trust of the NABCO trainees. The fate of the NPP and Dr. Bawumia’s political ambitions hang in the balance, as the youth of Ghana demand action and accountability from their leaders.
