The 46 Public Colleges of Education in Ghana have opened applications for the 2025/2026 academic year. If you dream of teaching at the basic or junior high school level, this is your chance to apply for the 4-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) Degree Programme.
Admission Requirements
There are different ways to qualify for admission. Below are the requirements based on the type of certificate you hold.
1. WASSCE/SSSCE Holders
If you completed WASSCE or SSSCE, you must meet these requirements:
- Have credit passes (A1–C6 for WASSCE or A–D for SSSCE) in six subjects.
- These subjects should include English Language, Core Mathematics, and Integrated Science or Social Studies.
- You also need three elective subjects that are relevant to the education course you want to study.
Note: If you are yet to write the 2025 WASSCE or TVET Certificate II Examination, you can still apply as a “waiting result” candidate.
2. GCE Advanced Level Applicants
- Must have three passes in Advanced Level subjects (at least one pass should be Grade D or better).
- Must also have credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects, including English, Mathematics, and a Science or Social Science subject.
3. Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE) Applicants
- Must pass three subjects at the Advanced Level (at least one pass should be Grade D or better).
- Must have five credit passes in the General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE), including English, Mathematics, and a relevant Science or Social Studies subject.
4. Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Applicants
You can apply if you have:
- TVET Certificate II Examinations with at least Lower Credit (C-) in six subjects, including Core Mathematics, English, and three relevant elective subjects.
- Certificate II in three relevant trade areas awarded by TEU, NVTI, City & Guilds, or other recognized bodies.
- National Board for Professional and Technician Examinations (NABPTEX) Certificate II in relevant trade areas, with at least three credit passes in WASSCE/SSSCE core subjects (including English and Mathematics).
- National Certificate II qualification in Competency-Based Training (CBT) from TEU under the National TVET Qualification Framework (NTVETQF).
5. Foreign Applicants
If you have a foreign certificate, it must be evaluated by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
Note: Exams like SAT and TOEFL are not accepted as direct entry qualifications for Colleges of Education in Ghana.
Bachelor of Education Programmes Available
The Colleges of Education in Ghana offer the following teaching courses:
- B.Ed in Early Grade Education (for Kindergarten and lower primary teachers).
- B.Ed in Primary Education (for primary school teachers).
- B.Ed in Junior High School (JHS) Education (for JHS teachers).
The JHS programme allows students to specialize in subjects such as Science, Mathematics, ICT, Home Economics, Music, Visual Arts, History, French, and more.

Visually impaired students can apply to these special colleges:

- Wesley College of Education, Kumasi
- Presbyterian College of Education, Akro
