Choosing The College you want as a first-choice option on the public colleges’ application portal remains a key admission criterion for applicants during the selection process.

Admission Selection Procedure

Now that applications are in, here’s how the selection process works:

  1. Verification of Results – WAEC and other awarding bodies verify the results submitted by applicants.
  2. Merit-Based Shortlisting – Applicants are ranked based on their best six subjects (3 Core + 3 Electives) that meet the programme requirements.
  3. Programme & College Choice – Consideration is given to the college and programme options selected by the applicant, but final placement depends on competition and available slots.
  4. Special Categories – Special needs applicants and those under teacher trainee quotas are given priority where applicable.
  5. Provisional Admission Lists – Colleges publish the names of successful applicants on their noticeboards, websites, and through SMS notifications.

If you do not meet the requirements stated above, you will not be selected, even if you applied.

What Applicants Should Expect Next

  • SMS Notification: Successful applicants will receive text messages from their chosen colleges.
  • Admission List Release: Colleges of Education will release the first batch admission lists once GTEC approval is complete.
  • Acceptance & Fees Payment: Admitted students must confirm their acceptance by paying a non-refundable admission fee within the given deadline.
  • Reporting Date: After fee payment, students will report to their respective colleges with original documents for verification.

The Colleges of Education admission process is strictly based on merit and requirements. Meeting the qualifications does not guarantee automatic admission since the competition is very high, but without the required passes, you will not be considered at all.
