Newly Posted Teachers Plan “Ye Gye Yɛn Sika” Demonstration Over Unpaid Salaries

A group of newly posted teachers from Colleges of Education and universities are planning a major demonstration in Accra to demand the payment of their salaries.
The protest, called “Ye Gye Yɛn Sika Demo” (meaning We want our money), is set to take place on Tuesday, 30th September, 2025. The teachers say they have been working for several months without pay — some for as long as 13 months, while others for 9 months.
Their Demands
The teachers, who call themselves the Coalition of Unpaid Newly Posted Teachers, are asking government to:
- Pay all their salary arrears.
- Generate their remaining staff IDs.
- Renew their clearance, which they say has expired.
- End the delay in processing their payments.
According to the group, “Enough is enough. We cannot continue to work without pay. We also deserve justice because we are Ghanaians.”
Route for the Demonstration
The demonstrators will gather at Nkrumah Circle (Obra Spot) at 8:00 am sharp and march to the Independence Square.
Why This Matters
The issue of salary delays has been a long-standing problem for newly posted teachers in Ghana. Many of them struggle to survive without pay while still expected to perform their duties in classrooms. This demonstration is meant to draw national attention to their plight and push the authorities to act quickly.
The “Ye Gye Yɛn Sika Demo” is not just about money — it is about fairness and respect for the hard work of teachers. The coalition is sending a strong message to government: end the injustice, pay us our salaries.
