Official Reopen Date for Teacher Trainees

The official reopen date for teacher trainees has now been confirmed as Sunday, 9th February 2026.

Earlier, teacher trainees were expected to return to campus after the Christmas break on 19th January 2026.

However, this date was later changed. The Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) announced a postponement due to the ongoing CETAG strike.

Why the Reopen Date Was Changed

The decision to postpone the reopening was taken because the CETAG strike is still unresolved.

CETAG, which represents College of Education tutors, has been on strike over issues related to conditions of service and other concerns. As a result, academic activities in Colleges of Education have been affected.

To avoid students returning to campus without lecturers available for teaching and supervision, PRINCOF found it necessary to push the reopening date forward

According to the latest update from PRINCOF, all teacher trainees are expected to resume on 9th February 2026.

Students are advised to prepare adequately and make necessary travel arrangements ahead of time.

Teacher trainees are also encouraged to:

Stay in touch with their college authorities

Avoid relying on unverified information on social media

Many teacher trainees are hopeful that the CETAG strike will be resolved soon so that academic work can continue smoothly after reopening. Stakeholders are still in discussions to find a lasting solution to the issues at hand.

As the new reopening date approaches, teacher trainees should remain calm and patient. Use the remaining time to revise notes, rest well, and get ready for academic work once school resumes.
