PRINCOF Appeals to CETAG to Suspend Strike Action and Resume Academic Work

The Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) is making a passionate appeal to the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) to immediately suspend its ongoing strike action and return to lectures by Tuesday, August 6, 2024.

While PRINCOF acknowledges and appreciates CETAG’s concerns regarding the delayed implementation of the arbitration awards by the National Labour Commission (NLC), we believe that returning to the lecture rooms will pave the way for a speedy resolution of the issues.

A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed between CETAG and the Government on July 24, 2024, outlining a clear roadmap for the implementation of the NLC awards. PRINCOF views this as a demonstration of the Government’s commitment to addressing CETAG’s concerns and urges CETAG to equally demonstrate its commitment to the MoA by returning to the classroom.

The continuous strike action will disrupt the academic calendar, having repercussions for academic work. PRINCOF has evidence that the implementation of the NLC awards has started, and we are actively engaging with the Government to address these concerns in a speedy manner.

Implementation Status:

1. The Book and Research Top-Up Allowance will be paid by August 9, 2024.

2. The All-Year-Round data has been submitted for payment, and PRINCOF is facilitating the process to meet the agreed deadlines.

3. The migration of staff from the Colleges of Education salary structure to the Universities salary structure began on July 29, 2024, and is expected to end in four weeks.

PRINCOF has the welfare of CETAG members at heart and will continue to work for their benefit. However, we urge CETAG to return to the lecture halls to allow for fruitful engagement and speedy resolution of the issues, including the frozen July 2024 salary.

PRINCOF stand ready to facilitate the payment of July salaries for CETAG members who return to the classroom by Tuesday, August 6, 2024. Your cooperation will demonstrate our shared dedication and commitment to teacher education and the well-being of our students.

“We look forward to your immediate return to the lecture halls for the resumption of academic work”.

As to whether CETAG will call their legal strike off for the said time, only time will tell.
