University of Ghana Ranked Best in Ghana and West Africa Again

The University of Ghana, Legon, has once again been named the best university in Ghana and the entire West African region, according to the 2026 QS World University Rankings. This is a proud moment for the university as it continues to hold its top position in Ghana as well as the wider West African.

This new ranking follows a similar success in the 2025 rankings and shows how much the university is improving. The progress comes from the university’s dedication to its five key goals listed in its 2024–2029 Strategic Plan.

One of the most impressive results from the 2026 QS Rankings is the Employment Outcomes score of 96.8. This means graduates from the University of Ghana are doing very well on the job market worldwide. It also shows that the university’s efforts to improve student experiences are paying off.

The University also got a high score of 80.8 in the International Research Network category. This shows that UG is building strong partnerships with universities and researchers across the world. These partnerships are helping to boost the university’s global reputation and research work.

In addition, the university performed well in the Sustainability category. This reflects its commitment to protecting the environment and managing resources responsibly. These efforts are part of the university’s plan to grow in a sustainable and ethical way.

This achievement is a strong motivation for the University of Ghana to keep investing in its teachers, students, research, and global partnerships. It also proves that UG is serious about becoming a world-class university.

Apart from the QS Rankings, the University of Ghana was also recognized in the Times Higher Education (THE) Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2025. UG came first in Ghana, second in West Africa, and achieved a strong position globally. It is important to know that the QS and THE rankings are different and use separate methods to judge universities.

The University’s management has praised all students, lecturers, and staff for their hard work. Their efforts are helping the university reach new heights in education, research, and global connections. These achievements are not only good for UG but also help to improve higher education in Ghana and across Africa.
