The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) 2025 results have raised serious concerns across the country. Many students did not perform well in the core subjects, and the statistics show a big drop in performance compared to previous years.
English Language
A total of 131,097 students (30.27%) failed English Language.
This means almost one out of every three candidates could not meet the required pass mark. English is a key subject for all courses, so this high failure rate is worrying.
Core Mathematics
Core Mathematics recorded the highest number of failures.
About 220,008 students (50.54%) failed the subject.
More than half of all candidates struggled with mathematics, making it the most challenging subject for students this year.
Integrated Science
In Integrated Science, 161,606 students (39.87%) could not pass.
This shows that many students had difficulties understanding scientific concepts and applying them in the examination.
Social Studies
Social Studies also recorded a high failure rate.
A total of 196,727 students (44%) failed the subject.
This indicates that almost half of the candidates had trouble with basic social and civic knowledge.
General Outlook
According to the analysis, WASSCE 2025 recorded the worst performance in the last five years. Educators and parents are concerned about what might have caused this decline. Some people believe that issues such as inadequate learning materials, reduced contact hours, and poor preparation may have contributed to the poor results.
There is now a strong call for better support for students and teachers to improve learning in senior high schools. If nothing is done, the performance gap may continue to widen in the coming years.
