The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of candidates who sat for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates.
According to a press release dated September 4, 2026, WAEC said the results have been hosted online, allowing candidates who wish to check their results to access them through the Council’s official website. Heads of schools will also receive login details to enable them to access the results of their candidates.
Over 512,000 Candidates Registered
A total of 512,862 candidates from 1,022 schools were registered for the 2026 WASSCE.
The candidates comprised:
- 225,270 males
- 287,592 females
The 2026 entry figure represents an 11.07% increase compared with the 461,736 candidates recorded in 2025.
WAEC also reported that 5,049 candidates, representing 0.98%, were absent from the examination.
2026 WASSCE Performance in Core Subjects
The performance statistics released by WAEC show varying results across the four core subjects: English Language, Mathematics (Core), Integrated Science and Social Studies.
English Language
A total of 315,094 candidates, representing 62.40%, obtained grades between A1 and C6 in English Language.
The results also showed:
- D7: 49,771 candidates (9.86%)
- E8: 37,080 candidates (7.34%)
- F9: 55,940 candidates (11.08%)
English Language recorded a continued decline over the four-year period. The percentage of candidates obtaining A1–C6 fell from 73.11% in 2023 to 69.52% in 2024, 69.00% in 2025, and 62.40% in 2026.
Mathematics (Core)
In Mathematics (Core), 306,234 candidates, representing 60.75%, obtained grades A1–C6.
The remaining performance figures were:
- D7: 54,420 candidates (10.80%)
- E8: 54,121 candidates (10.74%)
- F9: 74,692 candidates (14.82%)
Mathematics performance improved significantly from 48.73% in 2025 to 60.75% in 2026, although it remained below the 66.86% recorded in 2024.
Integrated Science
For Integrated Science, 309,605 candidates, representing 62.08%, obtained A1–C6.
WAEC recorded:
- D7: 54,649 candidates (10.96%)
- E8: 46,526 candidates (9.33%)
- F9: 76,136 candidates (15.27%)
The A1–C6 performance increased from 57.74% in 2025 to 62.08% in 2026.
Social Studies Records Highest Performance
Social Studies emerged as the best-performing core subject in 2026.
A total of 393,918 candidates, representing 78.04%, obtained grades A1–C6.
The other grades were:
- D7: 35,435 candidates (7.02%)
- E8: 25,253 candidates (5.00%)
- F9: 39,416 candidates (7.81%)
The 2026 figure represents a major improvement from 55.82% in 2025 and is also higher than the 76.76% recorded in 2023.

The figures show that performance in Mathematics, Integrated Science and Social Studies varied over the four-year period, while English Language recorded a progressive decline.
Examination Irregularities
Alongside the release of the 2026 WASSCE results, WAEC has also announced decisions concerning cases of examination irregularities recorded during the conduct of the examination.
Following the completion of investigations into some of the reported cases, the 42nd Meeting of the Ghana Examinations Committee, held on Friday, August 7, 2026, approved several sanctions.
Results Cancelled for Bringing Foreign Materials
The subject results of 7,434 candidates have been cancelled for bringing foreign materials into the examination halls.
These materials included prepared notes, textbooks and printed materials.
Results Cancelled for Possession of Mobile Phones
The entire results of 861 candidates have also been cancelled for possessing mobile phones in the examination halls.
WAEC continues to prohibit candidates from taking unauthorised electronic devices into examination halls as part of measures to protect the integrity and credibility of the examination.
Other Suspected Offences
WAEC further announced that:
- Subject results of 957 candidates have been withheld for various suspected offences.
- Entire results of 270 candidates have also been withheld for various suspected offences.
Results Withheld Over Alleged Collusion
WAEC said some subject results of candidates from 169 schools have also been withheld over allegations of collusion.
These cases are still under investigation.
According to the Council, the withheld results may either be released or cancelled, depending on the outcome of the investigations. A decision on these cases is expected by October 30, 2026.
What Candidates with Withheld or Cancelled Results Should Do
Candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld have been advised to visit the WAEC irregularity and investigations platform:
Candidates should click on the “Withheld/Cancelled” button on the homepage. They will then be redirected to the irregularity and investigations page.
The page will provide information about the reason for the withholding or cancellation of the results, as well as details concerning the next line of action for candidates whose results have been withheld.
Candidates are therefore encouraged to use the official platform and follow the instructions provided by WAEC.
WAEC Warns Against Fraudsters
WAEC has also cautioned candidates and the general public to be wary of individuals who claim that they can upgrade or change examination results for a fee.
The Council stated that its results are secured and can be authenticated through its results verification system. The WAEC QR code can also be downloaded and used to verify results.
Candidates should therefore avoid paying money to individuals who claim to have the ability to manipulate or upgrade their results.

The release of the 2026 WASSCE provisional results provides candidates, parents, schools and other stakeholders with an important assessment of students’ performance across the country.
While Social Studies recorded a strong performance and Mathematics and Integrated Science showed improvement compared with 2025, the continued decline in English Language performance remains an area that may require attention.
At the same time, the sanctions imposed over examination irregularities demonstrate WAEC’s continued efforts to protect the credibility and integrity of the WASSCE.
