Ghana National Service Personnel Warned to Refund Dual Income or Face Punishment

The Ghana National Service Authority (GNSA) has issued a strong warning to all National Service personnel who are also working full-time jobs and receiving double income.

According to a new press release from the GNSA, such actions go against the National Service Authority Act, 2024 (Act 1119), and those found guilty must “immediately refund all unlawfully collected National Service allowances”.

The directive is part of a new effort to check the records of people doing their service while also working full-time, especially in the public sector.

The GNSA said it is working with the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to verify full enrolment lists of the following categories:

General Enrolment (2024/2025)

Nurses Enrolment (2025/2026)

Teachers Enrolment (2025/2026)

Any service person found to have received both National Service allowance and a salary from another full-time job is being asked to pay back the total amount.

Payment should be made to the account below:

Bank Name: CBG Account Name: National Service Authority account Number: 23430004100001 Branch: Manet Tower 3 Once payment is made, the person must take the receipt to the nearest Regional Office or the Head Office of the National Service Authority in Accra to regularize their status.

The GNSA clearly stated that the “deadline for compliance is within two weeks from the date of this release” which is dated May 22, 2025.Failure to comply will lead to serious consequences including:

Being reported for Prosecution being reported to your main employer for disciplinary Action being permanently disqualified from future public service work.

The GNSA has urged all affected personnel to act quickly and take responsibility.

The Authority also assured the public that it is still “committed to upholding the values of integrity, accountability, and transparency in the administration of National Service.”

This is a wake-up call for anyone trying to cheat the system. If you are doing your National Service, make sure you are not breaking the rules by working full-time elsewhere.

Pay back the money if you owe, and regularize your status before it’s too late.
