Ghana Police Service Recruitment Requirements – 2025

 

Are you planning to apply for the Ghana Police Service? This article explains all the requirements  so you can easily understand what is needed before submitting your application. The Ghana Police Service recruits different people based on their qualifications, so make sure you know where you fit.

General Requirements for All Applicants

No matter the category you choose, every applicant must meet these basic requirements:

  • You must be a Ghanaian by birth.
  • You should be of good character and not have been dismissed from any public service.
  • You must meet the age requirement for your selected category by 1st November 2025.
  • Minimum height: 5’8” (173cm) for males and 5’4” (163cm) for females.
  • You must be physically and medically fit.
  • You must have passed BECE, including English and Mathematics.
  • National Service must be completed if you are applying as a graduate.
  • You should be ready to go through police training.

1. General Recruitment Applicants

This category is for people applying with WASSCE or SSSCE passes.

  • Age: 18–30 years by 1st November 2025
  • Education: At least five passes including English and Mathematics in SSSCE/WASSCE.

2. Tradesmen Recruitment (Technical & Vocational)

This category is for people with skills in vocational or technical fields.

  • Age: Not more than 35 years
  • Education: Certificate I or II from GES/COTVET, NVTI, or other technical institutions.

Trades accepted include:

  • Motor Vehicle Mechanics
  • Drivers/Riders (must have license B or higher, at least 2 years old)
  • Electricians
  • Plumbers & Masons
  • Painters/Sign Writers
  • Tailors/Seamstress
  • Carpentry
  • Welding & Steel Bending
  • Refrigeration
  • Sportsmen (Age: not more than 30 years)
  • Band Applicants (must be able to read music notes and play an instrument)

3. HND and Degree Holders (Non-Medical/Technical)

Degree Holders – General Duty

  • Age: Not more than 35 years
  • Qualification: At least a Bachelor’s Degree (Second Class Lower or better)

HND Holders

  • Age: Not more than 32 years
  • Qualification: HND from a recognized institution

Diploma Holders

  • Age: Not more than 35 years
  • Qualification: Diploma from an accredited university or technical institution

4. Medical Professionals

The Police Service also recruits people with health-related qualifications.

Medical Doctors

  • Age ≤ 35 years
  • Must have MB ChB/BDS, be registered, and have 1-year working experience

Medical Specialists

  • Age ≤ 40 years
  • Must have specialist training with 2 years working experience

(Specialties include surgeons, gynaecologists, paediatricians, psychiatrists, ophthalmologists, and more.)

Pharmacists

  • Age ≤ 35 years
  • Must have BPharm, PharmD, or MPharm
  • Must be registered and have 1-year post-NSS experience

Nurses & Midwives

  • Age:
    • Certificate/HND holders:32 years
    • Degree holders:35 years
  • Must be registered with the NMC

Fields include:
ENT Nurses, Midwives, Theatre Nurses, Psychiatric Nurses, Public Health Nurses, General Nurses, and more.

Specialized Nurses

  • Age ≤ 35 years
  • Must be a Registered General Nurse with a Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years experience

Other Medical Categories

  • Medical Laboratory Scientists
  • Physician Assistants
  • Anaesthetists
  • Health Informatics Officers
  • Nutritionists
  • Physiotherapists
  • Public Health Officers
  • Histo Technologists
  • Pharmacy Technologists
  • Sonographers
    (Each category: Age ≤ 35 years, with relevant qualifications)

5. Religious Affairs (Chaplains and Imams)

Ordained Ministers / Chaplains

  • Age ≤ 40 years
  • Must have at least a degree in Theology
  • Must be ordained and recognized by a national Christian body

Imams

  • Age ≤ 40 years
  • Must have a degree in Islamic Studies and strong Arabic background
  • Must be approved by recognized Muslim bodies in Ghana
