Security Services Recruitment Screening: What You Should Do to Avoid Being Disqualified

Every year, thousands of young Ghanaians apply to join the security services such as the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Fire Service, and Ghana Prisons Service. Many people pass the online application and written exams, but sadly, a large number of them are disqualified during the screening stage. This happens mostly because they do not prepare well or they make simple mistakes.

This article will guide you on what to do to avoid being disqualified and how to increase your chances of passing the screening.

1. Be Truthful in All Your Details

One of the biggest reasons applicants are disqualified is giving false information. Your name, date of birth, school, results, and ID must all match. If your documents do not agree with each other, you may be removed from the process.

Never try to:

  • Change your age
  • Use fake certificates
  • Edit your results
  • Use someone else’s documents

Security agencies have ways of checking everything. Once they detect a lie, you will be disqualified and sometimes banned from applying again and you may be arrested.

2. Dress Neatly and Decently

How you look on the screening day is very important. The officers are not only checking your documents, but they are also watching your discipline.

Wear:

  • Clean shirt or T-shirt
  • Trousers
  • Closed shoes
  • Neat haircut

Avoid:

  • Slippers
  • Torn clothes
  • Sagging trousers
  • Excessive make-up or earrings

Your appearance shows how serious you are about the job.

3. Carry All Required Documents

Before going for screening, check the list of documents you are required to bring. These usually include:

  • Birth certificate
  • WASSCE or BECE certificate
  • National ID or passport
  • Application printout
  • Any other letter given to you

If you forget even one important document, you may not be allowed to enter the screening centre.

4. Be Physically and Medically Fit

Security services require people who are healthy and strong. During screening, you may be tested for:

  • Height and weight
  • Blood pressure
  • Eyesight
  • Hearing
  • General health

Try to eat healthy foods, drink water, and rest well before your screening day. Avoid alcohol, smoking, and drugs because they can affect your health results.

5. Avoid Tattoos and Body Marks

Some security agencies do not accept people with visible tattoos, especially on the face, neck, arms, and legs. Large scars or unusual body marks can also lead to disqualification.

6. Be Calm, Confident, and Respectful

You may be asked a few questions during screening. Do not panic. Speak clearly and answer politely. Greet officers well and follow all instructions.

Do not argue or behave rudely, even if you feel something is unfair. Discipline is one of the most important qualities in the security services.

7. Do Not Pay Anyone for “Protocol”

Many scammers take advantage of applicants by claiming they have connections inside the security services. They may ask you to pay money for special help.

This is a lie. The recruitment process is based on merit and honesty. Paying money to anyone will not help you and may lead to your disqualification.

Conclusion

Passing security services screening is not about luck. It is about being prepared, honest, disciplined, and confident. Make sure your documents are correct, dress well, stay healthy, and avoid shortcuts. If you follow these simple rules, you will have a better chance of achieving your dream of serving Ghana in the security services.

Stay focused, and never give up.
