TTAG Secures Major Fee Reductions for Colleges of Education – Check the New 2025/2026 Structure!
The National Secretariat of the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) has released an important communiqué highlighting major outcomes from its recent meeting with the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF). The meeting, which took place on Monday, 27th October 2025, focused on the fees structure for teacher trainees across all public colleges of education for the 2025/2026 academic year.
According to TTAG, the discussions were productive and led to several significant resolutions that will bring relief to teacher trainees nationwide. The communiqué, signed by Victor Atsu Anyidoho (General Secretary) and Nanija Divine (President), outlined four key decisions reached during the meeting.
1. Residential Fees Reduced
One major outcome was the reduction of residential fees. The statement reads: “It was mutually agreed that the proposed fee of GHC1,000.00 be reduced to GHC800.00.”
This reduced fee applies only to students staying on campus. TTAG also clarified that this fee is not compulsory for students who prefer to live off-campus or in private accommodation. “Teacher Trainees who prefer to reside off-campus or in private accommodation may commute from their respective residences for lectures,” the communiqué stated.
2. Digital Resources Fees Withdrawn
The controversial Digital Resources Fee has also been temporarily withdrawn from the approved fee structure. TTAG noted that this component will undergo further review to determine its necessity and value to trainees. “The component on Digital Resources has been temporarily withdrawn from the approved fee structure and remains under review for possible future implementation, contingent on its relevance and benefit to Teacher Trainees.”
3. Mattress Rental Charges Removed
Another positive development is the removal of mattress rental fees. TTAG reported that principals have been advised not to charge students for mattresses or related items. “Principals have been duly advised not to levy any separate charges for mattresses or related items. The rental of school mattresses has been completely removed from the approved fee structure.”
4. College-Specific Fees to Be Handled Locally
TTAG also addressed the issue of internal or college-specific fees, which often vary from one institution to another. The association explained that these fees will now be handled at the local SRC level. “Internal fees and levies that vary across Colleges are to be addressed at the local SRC level. The TTAG National Secretariat remains available to support any SRCs encountering challenges in resolving such matters.”
TTAG Reaffirms Its Commitment
In closing, TTAG assured all teacher trainees that it remains fully committed to their welfare and academic progress. “The leadership reaffirms its steadfast commitment to safeguarding the welfare and interests of all Teacher Trainees across the nation. Any further updates from ongoing engagements with relevant stakeholders shall be duly communicated.”
The communiqué ended with a strong call for unity and collaboration among teacher trainees: “Building a formidable TTAG front! Teacher Trainees at heart! TTAG, we mean well!!!”
This announcement has been well received among trainees, as it shows that TTAG continues to fight for fair and reasonable conditions in Ghana’s Colleges of Education.
