Teacher Arrested Following Alleged Assault of Female Student at Nyinahin Catholic SHS
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a 39-year-old teacher of Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School in connection with an alleged assault on a female student that was captured in a viral video.
According to the police, the suspect, identified as Eric Buernortey Apaflo, was apprehended by a patrol team from the Nyinahini District Police on the evening of June 8, 2026, following reports of an assault involving an 18-year-old student named Patience Chibu.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect, who works as a caretaker at the school’s hostel, confronted the female student and some male students over alleged misconduct within the hostel. During the encounter, a misunderstanding reportedly occurred, leading to the assault of the student.
The incident reportedly provoked a reaction from some students, who allegedly threw stones at the suspect. It was also reported that some youth from the town were invited to the hostel area in an attempt to attack him.
Police indicated that the situation was brought under control through the swift intervention of a patrol team, preventing further escalation.
Meanwhile, a Police Medical Report Form has been issued to the victim to facilitate medical examination and treatment. The suspect remains in police custody and is assisting with ongoing investigations.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has appealed to the public to remain calm and resolve grievances and disputes through lawful and peaceful means.
