Student Loan Trust Fund Assures Refunds for All Eligible Students
The Student Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has assured Ghanaian first-year students that all eligible applicants will receive refunds under the “No Fees Stress Policy,” despite some delays caused by registration and document issues.
SLTF Assures Students of Refunds
The Director of Corporate Communications at the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF), Mr. Obeng Agyenim Boateng, has assured students that everyone who qualifies for the “No Fees Stress Policy” will get their money.
Speaking to 3News on August 18, 2025, he confirmed that while some small issues have come up with the registration process, President John Dramani Mahama will keep his promise to first-year students.
Why Some Students Haven’t Been Paid Yet
Concerns have been raised that around 50,000 first-year students in public tertiary schools are still waiting for their refunds. Out of the 140,000 applicants who registered, 49,000 have received payment so far.
Mr. Boateng noted that 120,000 students across Ghana have already been paid, with some receiving up to GHC 2,500.

Reasons for Payment Delays
The SLTF explained that delays are mainly caused by three issues:
- Unaccredited Programmes
“We pay through accredited programmes in the institution, so if you choose a programme other than the one recorded in your institution, there will be challenges,” – Mr. Boateng
- Name Mismatches
Differences in names on Ghana Cards and applications also cause problems.
“You will see Kwaku Osei Manu on the Ghana Card but in applying you see Kwaku Manu and so it becomes difficult to reimburse such a person,” – Mr. Boateng
- Invalid Applications
Some students applied while studying in unapproved programmes, which the system cannot process.
Assurance to Ghanaian Students
Despite these challenges, the SLTF has promised that no eligible student will be left out.
“Until now, 200,000 students have applied, and we want to assure every Ghanaian student that their monies will be reimbursed in no time,” – Mr. Boateng
