Ghana Education Service Addresses Concerns of Newly Posted Teachers
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has finally responded to the many complaints made by newly posted teachers who started work in September 2024. These teachers had raised serious concerns about not receiving their Staff IDs and salaries.
In a press release signed by Daniel Fenyi, the Public Relations Officer of GES, the Service acknowledged the teachers’ challenges and explained the steps being taken to solve them.
Recruitment Problems From 2024
GES said that in 2024, they recruited 12,807 graduates from the Colleges of Education. Out of this number, 9,950 teachers received their Staff IDs and were paid. However, 2,113 had Staff IDs but could not be paid because their financial clearance had expired. Also, 582 teachers did not get their Staff IDs at all due to issues like missing documents, wrong SSNIT numbers, and self-posting cases.
What GES Has Done So Far
GES stated that since the new management took over, they quickly took steps to fix the problem:
- They carried out a nationwide validation exercise from 7th to 14th March 2025 to check if the teachers were genuinely recruited. This was done to clean up the recruitment system after discovering issues in recent audit reports.
- A technical team, including some of the affected teachers, was formed to improve communication and solve problems quickly.
- Letters were sent to the Ministry of Finance to ask for the expired financial clearance to be extended. Luckily, a budget was made for it in the 2025 national budget.
- GES is also working to stop future delays by fixing problems in the recruitment system.
Problem With Teacher Groups
GES also shared a challenge they are facing. They said it’s hard to handle the concerns properly because there are always new groups of aggrieved teachers with different leaders. According to GES, “Every picketing exercise often involves a different set of individuals.” This makes it difficult to track and solve the problems. GES is calling on all teacher groups to come together and speak with one voice so solutions can be found faster.
GES Calls for Calm and Unity
GES says it understands the pain of affected teachers but wants them to stay calm. The Service promises that they are working hard to fix the issue and pay everyone who deserves to be paid.
“Management remains committed to transparency, fairness, and collaboration in resolving this matter in the best interest of our hardworking teachers and the education sector at large.”GES Stated
While many are still frustrated, the steps taken by GES show that the matter is being taken seriously. Hopefully, these actions will bring quick results for the teachers who continue to serve the country.
