[Video] National Service personnel refuses school placement citing poor infrastructure.
A newly trained teacher from Offinso College of Education was sent to a small village in the Kwahu area of Eastern Region for his one-year national service.
But after seeing the school building, he left the post. People close to the matter say the teacher was shocked when he found out that the whole school was in a terrible condition.
The school had only two classrooms, and the building was old, broken, and unsafe. There were no windows, the roof was leaking, and there was no furniture for both teachers and students.
Because of this, the teacher went to the school just once and never came back. One person from the community said, “This place cannot be called a school. We have asked the government for help many times, but nothing has been done.”
This situation shows the big problems that many rural schools in Ghana are facing. It also shows the hard time new teachers go through, especially those doing their national service in poor areas.

Teacher groups and education leaders have always asked the government to fix schools in rural areas. They say better buildings and support will help keep teachers in these places.
So far, the local education office has not said anything about the issue or what they plan to do to fix the school. This story adds to the many voices asking for equal education for all students in Ghana.
